Vivaldi - Magnificat Ossecensis RV611

The first version of this work, RV610, was composed between 1713 and 1715 for the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, to which Vivaldi was attached intermittently for most of his professional life.

Most likely it would have been performed entirely by the ladies of that institution. Subsequently he revised it, adding oboe parts and extending the Sicut locutus. This version, RV611, thanks to Count Morzin, found its way to the monastery in Osek in the far north of Bohemia. This is the version, edited by Robbins Landon, which we shall be performing.
